The people of Kafena in the Asaro area of Daulo District in Eastern Highlands, are now homeless and in hiding, following an attack by Gireku villagers, over the weekend.
The Gireku villagers raided their Kafena neighbours, on Saturday morning, following the collapse and death of Ombudsman, John Nero, suspected of being killed through sorcery. Police Station Commander, Senior Inspector David Seine, says the situation is quiet but tense, with Asaro police and a Task Force Unit deployed to the area, to maintaining law and order. Senior Inspector Seine, is appealing to locals not to use the situation to re-ignite conflicts, which have been settled in the past, as this will only disrupt services into their area. Meanwhile, the body of the late Ombudsman Nero, is at the Goroka General Hospital morgue awaiting a post mortem, to find the cause of his death. Late Nero was said to have collapsed in his Gireku village and died over the weekend, when he was dealing with a conflict among his people. PNG Facts / NBC Comments are closed.
