There will be heavy presence of police and military in the Hela province after the Hela provincial assembly allocated K2 million for a joint police-military operation to control a tribal fight in the province, which has left 20 people dead and properties destroyed in the past month.
The Hela provincial assembly will draw the money from supplementary budgets to have additional man power to patrol Mt Kare, Komo-Margarima and Tari-Pori, the centre of the civil disturbances. The tribal fights in Hela Province involved the use of high powered rifles which made it hard for the few policemen in Tari to intervene. Many lives have been lost and properties destroyed. Hela Governor Anderson Agiru condemned the killings and destruction, urging the two warring tribes to stop because it was affecting business in the province. "Compensation and other responsibilities should be left to their tribesmen, the perpetrators must face justice once the situation is controlled," Mr Agiru said. Both military and police personnel will monitor and end any disturbances in Hela province. Both military and Police have assured Hela Governor and the people of Hela that they will do all within their powers to return normalcy to Tari-Poro and Komo-Margarima districts.
