Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio, GCL, GCMG, KStJ, Governor General of Papua New Guinea, today, signed on behalf of the State, a contract for the construction of a proposed new Diagnostic and Surgical Centre for Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province.
The contract valued at 50,000,000, (Euro 50,000,000) or approximately K150, 000,000, excluding GST, was awarded to VAMED HEALTH PROJECTS of Austria. The construction will be funded 85% by way of a low interest Export Credit Agency loan from the Government of Czeck Republic and 15% by the national Government. The National Executive Council had approval and recommended the VAMED Group, and directed the Minister for Treasury to appropriate K30 million for the Goroka Hospital commencing 2018. The new Diagnostic and Surgical Centre will be built at the Goroka Provincial Hospital site and will comprise three levels. The clinical services it will provide are: Accident & Emergency, laboratory, radiology, outpatient department, central sterile service department, operating theatres, critical care unit and women’s health. VAMED Group South East Asia Regional Director Siegfried Glanznig and Project Director Fritz Bauer signed the contract on behalf of VAMED witnessed by Secretary of Health Dr. Pascoe Kase.
