Papua New Guinea's Governor General, Sir Michael Ogio, will travel to the Cook Islands to attend the country’s 50th anniversary of self governance on the 4th of August.
Grand Chief Sir Michael and Lady Esmie will represent P-N-G in the weeklong Constitution Day celebrations in the Cook Islands beginning on the 1st of August. They will depart mid this week. Formerly a dependent territory of New Zealand, Cook Islands achieved self governance in 1965, but is still officially placed under the sovereignty of New Zealand. Sir Michael Ogio will return in mid August. Parliament Speaker Theo Zurenuouc, will be the acting Governor General then.
