An investigation has been commissioned into the use and administration of money under the Government's Rural Electrification Program.
The Independent Public Business Corporation will take charge of the investigation. Public Enterprise and State Investments Minister Ben Micah, announced the move today, saying serious allegations have been raised in Parliament over the fund, and it is only right that an investigation be conducted. He says the Terms of References for the investigation will be wide ranging, urging people with information to work with the investigation team. Mr. Micah says millions have been allocated to expand electricity service to the rural population, but there is little to show for on the ground. He adds that these are some of the reasons John Tangit was suspended as PNG Power's Chief Executive Officer. Findings from the investigation is expected in November. Related post
