POLICE say a girl from Southern Highlands was allegedly raped by four men on Saturday morning at Las Warakum, near Mt Hagen, in Western Highlands.
Provincial police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari said yesterday the girl was approached near her home by the four men who threatened her with knives and allegedly raped her. The incident took place between 3am and 4am. He said the girl was later taken to the Hagen hospital. He is appealing to the people living at Las Warakum to help police find the four men. Lakari said rape was slowly declining in the province after the HIV/AIDS awareness carried out by the Provincial AIDS Council. He urged the people not to hide or protect criminals. Meanwhile, he commended the people for an otherwise peaceful Easter celebration in the province. He said the people went to church and generally behaved themselves. “I want to commend the people for their behaviour in celebrating the death and resurrection of the Christ peacefully,” Lakari said.
