A former paymaster with the Electoral Commission has been arrested and charge for misappropriating over K294,000.
Fraud Director Matthew Damaru confirmed, Sarry Moere, 41 years of age form Abau Central Province was arrested last month. Moere was charged with 21 counts of false pretence, four counts of money laundering and 21 counts of misappropriation. It's alleged he credited these monies into his personal accounts. The Electoral Commission upon discovery of fraud, referred him for investigation by the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate. His locked up in the police cell, and will appear later at the Waigani Committal Court. A number of suspects are involved in this case and more arrests are expected soon.
