Two Correctional Service officers in Western Highlands, will be questioned by police, over the escape of 33 prisoners from the Baisu jail on New Years eve.
Seven other suspects are in police custody over allegations of harboring the escapees. However, Correctional Service Commissioner, Michael Waipo, told NBC News, formal investigations will start once funding becomes available. Mr Waipo said a three man internal investigation team led by Assistant Commissioner Highlands Philip Eka will travel to Western Highlands. ''Ah. actually two officers from the institution are being referred to the police under suspicion.Police have yet to progress this investigation and advice as to whether not there has not been any involvement by our staff. But common sense shows that there may have been staff involvement from within corrections that enable this escape to or breaking to happen in the 33 leaving the prison. But like I said, out rather we leave until this investigation is completed both from the police and ourselves independently". The 33 escapees are still at large.
