Deputy Prime Minister and Inter-Government Relations Minister, Leo Dion has denied knowing that tussle over the Hela Governorship post had gone to court, when he issued directions and advise recognizing the Member for Komo-Margarima, Francis Potape, as Governor.
"Mr Dion had issued an advice approving the actions of the Hela Provincial Assembly in removing Governor Anderson Agiru and replacing him with Mr. Potape. His advice was issued the same day, Governor Agiru had gone to court for orders challenging the decision of the Provincial Assembly voting in Potape as new Governor. Mr. Dion, says the Hela Provincial Assembly had sought advice from his Department to conduct its Provincial Assembly Meeting on the 22nd and 29th of December 2015, and he had provided directions as Minister responsible. Responding to criticisms leveled against him over his part in the Governorship tussle, Mr. Dion says he has no intention to interfere nor undermine the Court proceedings. Last week, the court reinstated Mr. Agiru as Governor, until the case is properly heard and determined in a trial in February.
