Another member of Parliament is awaiting sentencing, by the National Court, this week.
Komo-Magarima M-P, Francis Potape is charged with misappropriating 60-thousand Kina from District Services Improvement Program Funds in 2010, whilst a Minister. The Criminal Court was to have handed down its decision last Friday, but this was deferred to yesterday. It is understood that the decision was withheld because presiding Judge, Deputy Chief Justice, Sir Gibbs Salika, is not ready with one. Mr. Potape is alleged to have paid himself this money, whilst allowances went to other Local Level Government Presidents, including the District Administrator and Treasurer. Gulf Governor, Havila Kavo was also found guilty of misusing 131-thousand Kina, two weeks ago and is awaiting sentencing submissions. The Gulf Provincial Government paid the money to Mr. Kavo, as outstanding entitlements from a 10-million Kina Memorandum Of Agreement funds, meant for development projects in Kikori District.
