A 24-hour call centre is to be set up in Papua New Guinea's capital so people can report misconduct by the police or misuse of police vehicles.
The Port Moresby call centre will refer reports to the provincial police commander or the station commander who is expected to take appropriate action. The National reports the Police Commissioner has introduced the initiative not as a threat to his officers, but to guide them. Gari Baki is on a campaign to instill better standards in PNG's under-resourced force amid several incidents involving discipline this year. Mr Baki said billboards will be set up to educate on what police officers can and can't do while on duty. RNZI
