The National Court in Waigani granted a stay order on the arrest of the Opposition Leader Beldan Namah for allegedly threatening Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga.
Justice Cathrine Davani at 2pm made the orders in an urgent application presented to her by Namah’s lawyer Alois Jerewai. Justice Davani ordered both parties to appear before the National Court tomorrow at 9.30am for a full hearing. The order was sought following a failed attempt by police to arrest Namah today. The orders were issued by Kulunga after examining a letter from Namah over the manner the investigation into the Paraka saga was handled and reinstatement of police officers involved. He claimed the content of the letter was a threat to him. After a briefing with his lawyers, Namah says he will pursue the matter in the interest of the nation. He says he will fight on to see that his concern over the manner in which the investigation into the illegal payment of K71.8 million to Paul Paraka of Paraka Lawyers is completed. He called on anti-corruption organisations like the Ombudsman, Transparency International and others to join the fight. PNG Facts/ PNG EDGE Comments are closed.
