The State its servants and agents have been restrained by the National Court from suspending Task Force Sweep Chairman Sam Koim.
Mr Koim holds a senior position at the Solicitor General's Office. Judge Les Gavara-Nanu made the ruling this morning when presiding over the application to review the Government's decision that disbanded the Sweep Team last month. Affidavits provided by Mr Koim to court revealed there was political pressure from the top for his removal. Government lawyers had argued that is an administrative matter and doesn't affect the case in any way. The judge ruled however that its for the interest of justice the he remains an officer until matters before the court is completed. Meantime, the review hearing has been adjourned to next Wednesday and that interim orders made on Tuesday for the Sweep Team to operate remains. In other related matters, Attorney General Ano Pala is set to appear before the court this afternoon to be slapped with contempt charges. This relates to his statement this week regarding legality of the Paul Paraka bills. Mr Pala had stated there was no Supreme Court order stopping payments to Paraka law firm and that all paid bills were legal. Comments are closed.
