The National Court has issued orders for Police Commissioner Geoffery Vaki to appear this Friday to be dealt with for contempt of court charges.
Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia made the orders this morning (21/7/14). The Fraud Squad led by Chief Superintendent Timothy Gitua filed an application for contempt after Mr Vaki failed to execute a warrant of arrest issued for the prime minister. Mr Vaki was asked last week to appear in person but he didn't. This prompted the judge to question the process involve in issuing an order that would compel the commissioner to attend. The plaintiff's lawyer suggested for a bench warrant to be issued immediately, however, Sir Salamo says Mr Vaki must be given a chance to appear this Friday. Failing to comply with the order will result in the court taking swift action. All this issues arouse from a warrant of arrest issued by the District Court last month after the Investigation Task Force Sweep were satisfied with new evidence before them implicating Mr O'Neill. Mr Vaki failed to appear at the National Court but went to the Committal Court instead on another matter. He was with his lawyer Sam Bonner and tried unsuccessfully to strike out a case. This involves the police commissioner being charged with perverting the cause of justice and abuse of office. They said its over a month now and police are yet to investigate, however the magistrate said its pre-mature at this stage refusing the application. Vaki's arrest relates to him interfering with due processes of police work relating to the arrest of the prime minister and investigation into the Paul Paraka matter. Comments are closed.
