The Court of Disputed Returns has dismissed an election petition against the Member for Kairuku Hiri, Peter Isoaimo, on technical grounds.
Judge Colin Makail ruled the petitioner did not pay his K5,000 security fee, when he filed his application to the court registry. Mr Isoaimo had objected to the application by former MP Paru Aihi on two grounds relating to insufficient facts and failure to pay cost. Mr Aihi had paid the K5,000 but into a different account and blamed register staff for the administrative error. The judge was satisfied that rules of court were very clear and lawyers were supposed to be advising clients properly on steps to take. He further said Mr Aihi is also not new to election petitions and ruled out the application. Comments are closed.
