A POLICE officer accused of ordering a woman to chew and swallow condoms at the Boroko Police Station on the 4th of last month appeared in court yesterday. Joshua Yawijah, 22, and from Maia village in the Pangia district of Southern Highlands, is charged with one count of deprivation of liberty, two counts of forcing someone to do indecent acts and a count of abuse of office. Waigani Committal Court magistrate Cosmas Bidar read the charges to Yawijah and adjourned his case to the 15th of next month Yawijah appeared from police custody after he was apprehended in Southern Highlands and flown to Port Moresby last Friday. The court granted him a K1000 bail and told him to remain at his residence at the police barracks and not to interfere with police witnesses. It was alleged that Yawijah was with another male officer and a female officer at the police station and forced the woman to chew and swallow two condoms. The female officer, Jacklyn Tanda, 23, appeared in earlier this month on similar charges. She was also granted a K1000 bail.
