THREE children were burnt alive while asleep at their home in the Eastern Highlands Province. The incident took place on Tuesday night and police are looking for their mother who was with them.
Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Superintendent John Kale confirmed that the three children were with their mother before the fire destroyed their home at around 11pm on Tuesday. The children were identified as Sagus Simon, 6, Supa Simon, 4, and Auwo Simon, 2. They were the children of Simon Suo and Sine Simon from Warabako village in West Elimbari, Chuave district. Neighbours in the settlement confirmed that the three children had been living with their mother after the father left them. Another family house nearby caught fire but the occupants managed to escape. Kale said the mother was nowhere to be found. He is appealing to the public to assist police in locating the mother. He said preliminary investigations found that the mother had lit a candle before leaving the house while the children were fast asleep.
