The owner of a bus reportedly involved in the murder of late Albert Gibson from Kainantu in the Eastern Highlands Province has voluntarily surrendered to Lae police.
Police say that, following the arrest of the bus owner, the bus driver and crew will be arrested and questioned over the killing of the pastor’s son on the eve of Independence Day. Police impounded the bus last night, following a tip off that the bus was going to be shipped off to Kimbe, West New Britain Province. Whilst the arrests will be made soon, a mobile squad from Mount Hagen in the Western Highlands Province has been deployed to Kainantu to ensure that the Barola section of the Highlands Highway remains open. The presence of the mobile squad comes after the Barola section of the Highlands Highway was closed off to vehicles for the last seven days. The closure had resulted in the halt of PMV’s (public motor vehicles) and trucks transporting vital goods and services to major centres in the Highlands provinces. Meanwhile, the people of Barola say their petition and demands must be met in fourteen (14) days. The petition with their demands was presented today to the Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso and other Eastern Highlands leaders to table in parliament. PNGFacts/EMTV Comments are closed.
