Port Moresby police have called on Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) drivers to strictly use designated bus stops for picking up passengers. This reminder follows ongoing concerns over buses stopping at unauthorized locations, particularly near the Waigani Traffic Light in North Waigani. Police highlighted that bus drivers often collect passengers at the roadside or even in the middle of traffic, creating safety risks and causing frustration for other road users. To address this, officers were deployed early this morning around 5 a.m. to the area to monitor and manage traffic flow. Authorities have urged PMV owners to take responsibility by educating their drivers about proper road use. “PMV owners who are educated people should always speak to their drivers to do what is right,” the police noted, emphasizing the importance of compliance.
Police also addressed criticisms regarding their enforcement efforts, stating that officers have consistently reminded drivers about traffic rules, but these warnings have largely been ignored. In a strong message to the public, police called for collective support to end what they described as a “cat-and-mouse game” between drivers and law enforcement in the city. The statement urged everyone to prioritize road safety and cooperation. Also read Comments are closed.
