Aircraft safety is important and at every airport in the country there should be a fire and rescue crew stationed there ready for any emergency that may occur. However, this is not the case for Boram Airport in Wewak, East Sepik Province after the Civil Aviation Fire and Rescue station there was closed sometime back. According to the Fire Commanding Officer for East Sepik, Fire Superintendent Michael Konaigwi, this now poses a major risk to aircrafts in an event of any emergency at the airport. Although he did not say why the base was closed; his concern now is for CAA to re-open the Fire Station at Boram Airport. At the moment, Konaigwi’s team is providing the service at the airport, but they are not equipped for it with only a handful of men and only one fire truck to cater only for the town area.
