Bird Demands Justice for Beneficiaries in Paraka Lawyers Case

East Sepik Governor Allan Bird has questioned the government’s commitment to justice after the sentencing of acting Secretary Mr. Yafai to 22 years in prison for processing payments to Paraka Lawyers.
Governor Bird said the case must not end with Yafai, stressing that those who benefited from the payments should also face scrutiny. “Yafai will serve 22 years for processing the payments. That’s what he is guilty of. But what about those who benefited?” Bird said.

He pointed out that Paraka Lawyers received hundreds of millions of kina over several years, suggesting that such large-scale transactions could not have occurred without assistance from influential individuals.
Bird called on investigators and prosecutors to identify and charge all recipients of the funds, saying Papua New Guineans deserve full accountability from all those involved.
“The question now is, will the law go after everyone who received money from Paraka Lawyers?” he asked.
The Governor emphasized that the public expects justice to be served across the board, not just for one individual, if the fight against corruption is to be taken seriously in Papua New Guinea.
