The arrest of the senior national and supreme court judge and a senior lawyer has been described as a sad day for Papua New Guinea. The Law Society and the University of Papua New Guinea School of Law say the arrests bring into question the country's judicial system. Executive Dean of U-P-N-G School of Law, Professor Mange Matui said, as the institution responsible for training lawyers in the country, they look up to the National and Supreme Court judges as role models. Professor Matui said the arrest sends a negative message to the legal fraternity, not only P-N-G but internationally. Meantime, Executive Director Institute of National Affairs, Paul Barker, said while the arrest of Justice Bernard Sakora is shocking, the integrity of the country's judiciary must be protected at all cost.
