Mr. Ganasi died suddenly of a suspected heart attack this morning. He was rushed to the Pacific International Hospital at around 8.30 in the morning after he collapsed at his house. Doctors tried to resuscitate him but to no avail. Prime Minister Peter O'Neill visited the body of Mr. Ganasi at the Pacific International Hospital. He was accompanied by senior ministers of the cabinet and members of his ruling Peoples National Congress Party. They paid a 15 minute visit to see the body of late speaker before leaving. In a statement, Mr. O'Neill says the late member represented one of the most challenging electorates of the country but served with distinction. And from his sick bed in Brisbane Australia, the Governor General, Sir Michael Ogio sent his heartfelt condolences to the family of late Aide Ganasi and the people of South Fly. He says the leader was a firm believer that his people deserved the benefits from their resources and has worked towards achieving that. Late Mr. Ganasi's body is expected to be taken to the funeral home. With the passing of Mr. Ganasi, Western Province is now left with only one Member of Parliament in the Member for Middle Fly, Roy Biyama. The Governor, Ati Wobiro, was found guilty of misappropriating public money and is awaiting sentencing from the court. The Member for North Fly, Boka Kondra, on the other hand was also found guilty of misusing public money by a Leadership Tribunal, and is appealing its recommendation to dismiss him from office.
