Papua New Guinea Assistant Police Commissioner for Border Command, Perou N’Dranou, has issued a strong warning to stakeholders in the Border Commands, cautioning them not to misuse the police force. This statement was made during his visit to Kiunga yesterday, October 1, 2024, where he conducted his first parade in the North Fly Command, Western Province. ACP N’Dranou stressed that police officers are not to be treated as security guards and emphasized that any engagement of police personnel must be authorized by the respective Provincial Police Commanders (PPCs). He highlighted concerns over unauthorized police deployments, stating, "I hear a lot of unauthorized deployments for self-interest, and such actions must cease immediately." N’Dranou also introduced a new Fortnight Performance Assessment format to monitor police activities, discipline, and attendance. The Assistant Commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration between stakeholders and the police force, noting that effective policing requires mutual investment and cooperation. He urged stakeholders in the North Fly Command to invest in the police if they want improved services. "Without stakeholders, there is no police force, and without the police force, there are no stakeholders," N’Dranou stated, stressing the need for coexistence.
He also addressed the need for improvements in police barracks, including access to basic utilities like power and water, to boost morale and performance. N’Dranou concluded by reminding his officers that their roles come with responsibilities to serve the people of Western Province, not their personal interests. Also read Comments are closed.
