THIRTEEN people, including a baby, have died in a horrific road accident near Korefegu, just outside Goroka in Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highlands Province. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. yesterday when a coaster bus traveling from Lae to Mt Hagen lost control on a sharp curve and plunged into a ravine. Authorities said the bus appeared to have been speeding and its tires were slippery, leading to the fatal crash. Rescue teams worked late into the evening, retrieving all bodies by 6 p.m.
Several survivors with critical injuries were taken to the Kapakamiliki Health Centre and Goroka Hospital. Police have confirmed that an investigation into the crash is underway. Also read
