By Ruth J Kissam This is the beautiful young mother and wife Imelda Tupi Timanda who was found dead, wrapped in canvas in her doctor husband's vehicle at the Wara Kagul checkpoint by police. *edited* according to EMTV news, her husband Dr. Simon Temo drove the vehicle with her remains towards Hagen from Mendi with the hope of ditching her body along the highway when Police at the checkpoint at Kaugel noticed the canvas while doing routine checks. Upon confirming it was human remains stopped the doctor and they called for reinforcement. Dr. Temo is alluded to have asked them to allow him to pass through offering to bribe the officers nearly K200,000.00. Fortunately, they refused and backup arrived and Dr. Simon Temo and his accomplices were arrested and are behind bars now while his wife's body is in the hospital morgue in Hagen. Her family have said they want the full brunt of the law. It was also revealed during EMTV interview that her family knew of his violent way and yet in my humble opinion, didn't do anything about getting their daughter out. She now will come home in a coffin.. *
Her story is not isolated neither is it uncommon anymore. Her story is becoming every other girls story in our beautiful country. Once not so long ago I was told by my elders that being a girl was a beautiful thing.. I was assured my fathers would defend my honor, my brothers would avenge me should anything happen to me, my husband would protect me and honor me but alas, that has changed. The very people that would die for me now kill, maim, rape and torture their own women. This is not who we are Papua New Guinea. We used to be warriors, not spinless cowards that got off on beating and raping their women and children?? I know there are good men in PNG, I belong to some of them.. I need your voice to raise up to hold your other brothers to account. You're not all bad but the few bad ones are tainting the whole lot of you. PLIS INAP NAU, KILIM MERI MAS STOP. EM OL PIKININI BILONG MAN WANKAIN OLSEM SUSA NA MAMA BILONG YU. PLIS STOPIM! And to families of battered wives, go get your daughters and bring them home. She shouldn't come home to you in a coffin. And to families of the violent husband, he also needs help. Reach out to him too, or the next time you want to visit, might be in prison. Sore tru beautiful girl, lewa bilong mi bruk nating long yu.. no one should go the way you did.. under extreme pain and torture.. beautiful angel rest easy now.
