By Michael Ipa Government will come and government will go but corruption in Papua New Guinea is here to stay regardless. Former PNG Prime Minister Sir Meckere Morauta has stated very clearly, that corruption is "systematic" and I believe the only way to eradicate corruption is also systematic. All governments have changed in our short history because of corruption. Everyone wants to change government because of corruption. Everyone screams corruption and votes in New government but why it continues unabated regardless of government change is a dilemma to ponder on. We said Sir Bill Skates government was corrupt, changed to Sir Mecekere Morauta. No, Morauta was corrupt, then we changed to Somare. Apparently Somare was corrupt, then we changed to Peter O'Neil and suddenly everyone thinks that Peter O'Neil was God's chosen leader. And the same mouth now cries corruption and wants this government removed and replaced with a new one.
Do you honestly believe that corruption will be eradicated when new government come in? Sure, you will be temporarily satisfied but discontent and dissatisfaction continues and then corruption continues. It will be used by the next opposition to topple the next government and the cycle continues. So this begs the question, how do we systematically eradicate corruption?
