In an email circulated to staff on Friday May 25, PNG Air acting CEO Paul Abbot reassured staffers that there is no truth in what is being circulated on social media.
“You may have seen recent social media posts attacking the airline and you may be asked by friends and family whether these stories are true or not. In the main, these stories make wild and untrue accusations regarding staff salaries, living conditions and unfair dismissals,” Mr Abbot stated in the email.
“The salaries quoted are exaggerated and untrue, the accommodation arrangements are exaggerated and untrue and while a senior staff member was dismissed it was for fraud relating to staff travel misuse and not for exposing deals as it is alleged,” Mr Abbot said.
Referring to the senior employee that was dismissed, Abbot added that when employees abuse the airline’s staff travel entitlement, it puts this benefit in jeopardy for every other employee.
“This is why management takes these matters very seriously and takes swift action against employees doing the wrong thing,” he said to clarify the matter to the airline staff.
“If you look at some of the other posts he has circulated, you can see he has too much time on his hands and appears to be stirring up trouble without any basis. The person who is writing the social media allegations is known and is easy to track down,” Abbot further stated in his email sent to this newspaper yesterday.
Meantime, PNG Air also reassures the travelling public that normal services remain as it continues to service its multiple domestic routes. Statement
