PNG’s political empire is known to give ultimate authority to the mandated parliamentarians. Although we thrive as a sovereign state with our Australian-British copy-paste constitution, it is obvious to be in its colonial form, exerting excessive power on the rulers.

It remains the leaders’ responsibility to enrich the rights and welfare of the citizens so they may achieve a common good and enjoy happiness together. Instead, our politicians are known to protect their personal-interest more often, with the aim to remain the big-men in the social order.

Plato’s thoughts maintain that we must not rely on the laws to make the state an ideal state as politicians will get around the laws to guard themselves. Indeed PNG's judiciary system is compromised with the legislative and executive branch, crafting more avenues for corruption.

Certain areas of our sensitive-sectors still have many policy gaps that are deliberately overlooked and disregarded by MPs because if it were fetched, it might as well attack them. Consequently, it impels negative effects on the problem from bad to worse or to put it bluntly, it is like adding fuel to the fire.


Our representatives always play around with the constitution to suit their desires. They enact and remove bills where applicable to their gain. Sadly, they are boundlessly becoming overnight millionaires and systematic dictators for years. 

Whether the MPs are in Government or its vice, the Opposition, would not even alter an inch of their decisions when it comes to enact laws that will attack or place threats on them. They will always prioritize their comfort-zone via policy wise in order that persistent dictatorial traits are maintained. 

It is pretty clear that our politicians utilize their succumbed power as a discretional weapon to secure their voters and shield their term and influence. Political and bureaucratic corruption occurs in plain sights and yet much has not been achieved in dealing with it.

As legislators continue to practice unethical behaviours by capitalising on the policy gaps, people beneath them practise even more, making corruption a common trend.
As a result, our leaders presume their responsibilities as another job that will provide for their daily bread and butter. That being a motive for undue influence of corruption is believed to be a new-normal where office-holders use public funds to build private empires. 
All in all, an ever-existing need to investigate white-collar political and official crimes remains but it is systematically avoided or strengthened. Politicians implant obstacles through protocols and policies where they see necessary to provide a safety net for themselves. 

Therefore, having a mechanism such as a CITIZENS’ INITIATIVE wields greater opportunities for the people to stand-up for their rights.

​Over the last decade, weak, defenseless and unarmed members of the general public have developed extreme fear with members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Polic Force.

Not only the harmless ordinary citizens but to a greater extend the members of the PNG Defense Force and top CEOs, highly educated Papua New Guineans and even the foreigners or the tourists have already developed hatred and fear with members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.

As far as everyone is concerned, this fear and hatred is caused due to the unprofessional and unethical conduct shown to the public by members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary

Why ordinary citizens are fearing the members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Cinstabulary?? Police have created a N0 1 enemy in their lives and that is none other than the people and the general public they are said to provide safety and security to.

This trend is created by the membersof the Police Force's own behaviour. They become more robotic, act in criminal manners, showing hitman syles as if they are on the battlefields in the Middle East fighting against the Taliban Forces.

The weapons used in public by the police are are even a greatest threat to any one, both nationals and foreigners. They act and appear as if they are soldiers who have just returned from a war.

The Honorable Minister for Police and the Commissioner for Police should waste no time in addressing this situation by aligning a strategic planning and approach in order to restore the public confidence that has been lost in our Police Force and to restore the pride of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary. The Police Force is turning into a government institutions employing criminals to suppress, deny, threat and abuse the "rights" of the citizens and non citizens in our country.

Brutality by Police must not be seen as remedy to one's attitude problem. You can not fix an attitude problem with another attitude problem. No it does not work. May be Police start strictly upholding the Law to its fullest the right way and see to it that offenders face the full force of law to its fullest without brutality. I believe we have tough laws in place but the problematic part is how they are being impose by police as first responders to crimes.

Continuous police brutality and unprofessional conduct against civilians has developed hatred to prey against them (police). More police officers will loose their lives in the hands of civilians which is a bad trend ...the pride n respect of the constabulary by its citizens is no longer there, instead the constabulary has been seen as Public Enemy N01.

East Sepik police commander Albert Beli said the policemen were charged under the Criminal Code Act and were not allowed police bail but would appear in court to be granted bail.
Beli said of the nine officers, one was a reservist and three were auxiliary policemen.
He said another was a businessman and a reservist who was charged with 12 counts of arson and one count of armed robbery.
He said the other policemen were charged with 13 counts of arson and one count each of armed robbery and one count each for abuse of office.
Beli said this brought the total to 11 police officers arrested so far in relation to the arson at Kreer village.
“Some more are expected to be arrested this week,” he said.
“I am happy with the internal investigation unit from Moresby and my local officers are doing to identify rouge officers in the province.”
It was alleged that in late November a policeman was drinking with his friends at Kreer village when he was assaulted by some of his drinking mates.

The youth’s father, Felix Brown, is a police officer in
Mt Hagen and a member of the Ngantskup tribe near Banz.
The youth, Mond, was a student at the Waghi Valley Secondary School. His death triggered retaliation by the youth’s relatives, led by Brown.
Angry tribesmen burnt a vehicle driven by the police officer’s wife in Banz town on Monday, forcing the officer to flee in another vehicle. He later surrendered himself to police at Minz police station.
The tribesmen and relatives walked from Banz town to the police station yesterday and demanded to know why the boy was shot.
The boy’s father is a member of the police mobile squad in Mt Hagen.
He said it was an “unnecessary killing”.
“Mond is my second-born son. I have six children. He was unarmed. He was a student. He was only 17 years old. I am lost for words,” he said.
Community leader Andrew Tants said the shooting was “cold-blooded”.
“The State and police department should take full responsibility for this brutal killing,” Tants said. “The tribe and Jiwaka have lost a potential human resource.
“We want a very good explanation as to why our son was shot like a criminal. He had done nothing wrong.”

"I wish to remind the members of the disciplinary forces, and in particular members of the Royal PNG Constabulary, of the significance of the oath they took upon becoming police officers," Mr Namah said in a media conference yesterday.

Mr Namah, flanked by Deputy Opposition Leader Sam Basil, and Rabaul MP Allan Marat, urged the police hierarchy to immediately take control and diffuse what is potentially an explosive situation.

"The oath you took is to uphold the Constitution and serve the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. The Independent State of Papua New Guinea means the people of Papua New Guinea and not the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea or the Opposition Leader or the Commissioner," he reminded members of the police force.

The Police Act 1998 says an officer commits an offence if he or she, while on duty in uniform, smokes in a public place, chews betelnut or acts offensively towards a member of public.

Properties at the guest house were destroyed and people were beaten up by police.
 
Substantial amounts of money are believed to have been taken by police during the three-day raids.
 
After the incident at Nine Mile on Sunday night, truckloads of police arrived at the Hohola Guest House, which also houses the Juha College, and destroyed properties, took cash and bashed up employees.
 
The same happened on Tuesday, when again, three truckloads of police personnel attacked employees and properties.
 
While the matter has been reported to Hohola Police Station, company director Tehe Pua expressed concern at the loss of business, time and money.
 
An ex-police inspector, Neil Yapa deplored the manner in which the attack was carried out.
 
He said Hohola is under the command of Hohola Police Station and police officers from other commands conducting a raid on the guest house are uncalled for.
 
He has called on the commissioner to discipline the officers involved.
 
In the meantime, assurance was given today in the newspapers by both Police Commissioner Geoffery Vaki and Deputy Jim Andrews. That question in need to ask. Is it legal to tell them to do such things? Isn't is breach of human rights?
