FOR the first time in the history of rugby league in PNG, the PNG Kumuls will receive a large sum of money from the Government’s business arm. This has never been done before.
So far, Government entities like the National Gaming Control Board and Air Niugini have already confirmed sponsoring the Kumuls with a total of K3.5 million – the NGCB gave K2 million while Air Niugini chipped in with K1.5 million. It is believed the PNG LNG project has also thrown its support behind the team with K2 million. The figures were not announced during the official sponsorship deal this year. The Post-Courier understands that PNG Power will come on board with more money to beef up the Kumuls campaign. Insiders from PNG Power confirmed that they were still in discussions about giving team Kumuls K1.5 million. However, the sponsorship could last for another five terms, as the other sponsors who have come on board have arranged. But that will depend on both parties agreeing to its proposed plans and marketing. Comments are closed.
