Jailed Western Governor Ati Wobiro and former Provincial Administrator Doctor Modowa Gumoi are asking the Supreme Court to release them on bail, to escape a 10 year sentence imposed by the National Court in Waigani last Friday.
An application for bail for the duo, together with that of their accomplice and local businessman Norman May, was anticipated to go before the Chief Justice, Sir Salamo Injia, at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The trio were found guilty of misappropriating state funds totaling over K7.6m in July, and sentenced to the Bomana Prison last week. Wobiro stands to lose his governorship if he does not appeal his sentence within forty days. NBC/pngfacts
