The family of the late criminal William Nanua Kapris is calling on the human rights lawyer in Mt Hagen to immediately withdraw the court proceeding he started against the State.
The family says the lawyer instituted the case without their consent. Brian Kapis, the elder brother of the late William, says the immediate family never contacted nor discussed the matter with the lawyer. Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, Correctional Service Commissioner, Michael Waipo, and the Solicitor General have been named as defendants in the case. Mr Brian Kapis has signed a Statutory Declaration stating the family did not give instructions to the lawyer to initiate proceedings to sue the State for 10 million Kina over the manner in which William Kapris was killed. Mr Kapis is calling on the lawyer to immediately withdraw the case.
