The silent fight to free West Papua from Indonesian rule continues. This time a flag raising ceremony of the morning star flag is expected to be staged on December 1.
It will be the first time such a symbolic gesture has been made on PNG soil. Organizers are also envisioning the raising of the PNG Flag in the city of Sorong at the far end of West Papua. Benny Wenda is a West Papua Exile. Jailed and banished from his homeland after he raised the morning star flag. He was later granted political asylum in the United Kingdom and has been living there for the past 10 years. He has been instrumental in lobbying for West Papua campaign offices in various countries including the Netherlands and Australia. Papua New Guinea is next on his list; an office space is expected to be launched on the first of December at City hall in Port Moresby. He says although his spoken about the plight of West Papuans in many parts of the world, in the end he believes it’s Papua New Guinea that can truly pave the way for Independence. The Organisers say the December 1st Flag raising of the Morning Star flag on PNG Soil is in the interest of Peace and Stability. They urge Indonesia not to feel insecure. EMTV Comments are closed.
