West Papuan refugee community and supporters of refugee rights in Port Moresby will stage a protest to the Australian and PNG Immigration Departments tomorrow, over their handling of a group of refugees, who were dumped back into Port Moresby, after fleeing halfway into Australia from Merauke.
A similar event will simultaneously take place in Melbourne Australia. The group of seven which includes a woman and a 10-year old boy fled from persecution in Merauke, for their participation in a ceremonial handover of sacred water and ashes from indigenous Australian elders as part of the Freedom Flotilla to West Papua. They then fled to Australia where they claimed asylum. The group was informed that they were refused legal representation while already onboard an aircraft, and that they would be deported to Port Moresby, where they are now detained by PNG immigration. The group told NBC News, they do not want to be sent back to Indonesia, fearing their safety. Comments are closed.
