Businessman Eremas Wartoto has been committed to stand trial in the National Court on charges relating to his receiving of state monies totalling K22 million.
Waigani Committal Court made the ruling today saying there were sufficient evidences relating to the eight charges laid against him. The charges relate to the K10 million paid to his airline company Travel Air,K1.9 million paid for the rehabilitation of Kerevat National High School, K4.8million paid for a ship, MV Wara Kalap, and K6million paid to a company, Wide Bay Development Limited which later got its name changed to Wild Dog Plantation. Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said there were sufficient evidences. “Overall assessment of evidence in all cases show that there is reasonable prima facie case to warrant committal to the National Court,” Bidar said. Wartoto who was present for the ruling was ordered to appear for listing at the National Court on November 17. He was charged with two counts of conspiracy, three counts of false pretence, two counts of dishonest application and one count of money laundering. Meanwhile, Magistrate Bidar said the investigations contained a volume of files and took a while to go through and make sense out of the issues in the case. He added that there were many other people involved and likened the case to a net catching anybody in its path.
