Taurama Leisure Centre is not closing down and all facilities are open to the public including the swimming pool and the gym. Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko said however that over the next six months there will not be any allowance of political parties or intending candidates to use the facilities for political gatherings. Tkatchenko said he has talked with the Prime Minister and the cabinet regarding that and they have done a blanket approval to disallow anyone from using the facilities for any political activity- even the governing party- PNC. This is to protect the facilities from damage and betel nut spittle or any other cause when excited candidates and supporters use the facilities for political events as experienced during past years. The facilities are meant for sports and damages done to them are quite costly, he said. PNGFM/PNGFACTS
