Chairman of Task Force Sweep, Sam Koim, said investigations into the Paul Paraka Lawyers payment is massive and needs much collection and collation of documents, perusal of documents, thinking, analyzing, compilation and reaching conclusions, before punishment can be given.
Mr. Koim has denied any involvement in the recent warrants and court orders, to arrest the Prime Minister and his two ministers. Since taking responsibility of the case last year, the Task Force has taken steps to exhaust all avenues of inquiry, including obtaining records from banks, the Departments of Finance and Treasury, Prime Minister and National Executive Council and Justice and Attorney General among others. Interviews of people thought to be covered in the allegations are on-going, with written statements also obtained. Task Force Sweep has also sought advice of legal experts or Southern Counsels on the sufficiency of evidence. The Office of the Auditor General and other accountants, are also involved to audit the alleged trail of money illegally obtained. Koim however said, the law places great duty on the State to build a strong case that would ultimately result in conviction, and that the journey from investigation through to conviction is full of procedural requirements that must be complied with, every step of the way.
