One of the main players of the Paul Paraka Lawyer’s scam who was alleged to have facilitated numerous payments for Paul Paraka Lawyers by channeling millions of kina through his law firm’s trust account was arrested and charged for the second time.
According to the Task Force Sweep, Kumoro Sino, Principal of Sino & Co Lawyers based in Mount Hagen was arrested last Friday. According to investigations, Mr Sino's trust account was repeatedly between 2007 and 2012 to obtain a total of just over 38-million-kina on behalf of Paul Paraka Lawyers. Of these amounts, he retained a total of 653 thousand,180 Kina and transferred 38-point-million Kina to Paul Paraka Lawyers and its nominee company. Its alleged that Mr Sino did not do any legal work for the state but used his law firm’s trust account as a conduit in order to disguise the illegitimacy of the payments. He was charged with five counts of stealing, five counts of conspiracy to defraud, and five counts of money laundering. Mr. Sino was previously arrested along, with other principals of law firms, for a 6-million Kina, his law firm was alleged to have received, retained a small portion and paid the balance to Paul Paraka Lawyers.
