Sidelined PNG Power Chief Executive, John Tangit, has been re-instated.
Mr. Tangit's re-instatement was announced by P-N-G Power Board Chairman, Larry Andagali, following a special board meeting today. He will resume duties on next Monday. The Board after carefully assessing the company's current situation has re-instated Mr. Tangit. It says, there so many issues facing the company, including the ongoing power blackouts, and the destruction of power pylons by flood in Madang, and cannot continue to leave the chief executive officer's position vacant indefinitely. Chairman Andagali says, the allegations of misconduct against Mr. Tangit was generally viewed as honouring contractual commitments of previous board and management, and not point directly to him. They also found Tangit did not directly benefit in cash or kind from any decisions he made. Andagali, however, says independent investigations against Tangit continue, as this will expose the weaknesses in the systems and processes, especially in procurement, payment and management of finances. Meantime, the Board and Management have agreed to have a P-P-L Strategic Planning Workshop, to look at the key areas of procurement, revenue recognition, IT control and centralized systems, as well as skills, culture and work ethics, as a way forward.
