A court case involving a 23 year old female charge with improper use of telephone has been dismissed by the Waigani Committal Court last Friday.
The presiding magistrate labelled the case as a "sugar daddy's case". It involved a 45 year old married father of five (name witheld) and a newly graduate female police officer (name withheld) who were alleged to have had an ongoing relationship that turned sour. Evidance showed, the female had swore and used abusive words in text messages to this gentlemen that caused great deal of distress. Upon complaint the young constable currently working in Port Moresby was arrested under the new National Information Communication Act for improper use of telephone. However Magistrate Cosmos Bidar ruled there is insufficient evidence to commit the accused to stand trial at the National Court when he considered circumstances that led to the incident. The court was told the man at his own will and accord spent monies to purchase items including computers of the girl in a bid to win her heart. Bidar says evidence submitted claimed she promised him they would marry therefore influenced him. He found the case wasn't genuine as evidences were not sufficient and clear enough dismissing it.
