Students from the University of Papua New Guinea have started burning newspapers from certain media companies saying, they are biased in reporting. The students have banned certain media firms from attending and reporting on the University of Papua New Guinea’s planned rally and protest that is taking place. The students claimed, that certain Media companies in the country are pro-government and producing biased media reports. Meanwhile, Papua New Guineas two main tertiary institutions, have vowed to stand united in fighting for the silent majority, in light of the current turn of events in the country. The University of Papua New Guinea and the University of Technology in Lae, organized to present a petition to the government, to call on the Prime Minister and Police Commissioner to step down from office, and for suspended National Fraud Investigators to be reinstated. Student Representative Council Presidents of the two universities, met yesterday in sit-in protest organized by students of UPNG, and discussed their plans. David Kelma of Lae's Uni Tech and Keneth Rapa of UPNG, both say, they are ready to sacrifice their studies for the good of the country, if worse comes to worse. The students took to the social media and called on the public not to buy newspapers from the Post Courier and the National Newspaper companies.
