A student in Port Moresby died allegedly from injuries sustained from police attack last Friday after a cultural day event.
Pictures of the young man's body was posted online. He was identified as Robert Ivolo, from Goilala in Central Province, who was a student at the Don Bosco Institute at Gabutu. 'I think two and half meters away from the gate, there was a crowd, the policeman thought he did something and was running away and he hit him at the back of his head with a bamboo root. He fell down and did not get up." His uncle Edward Liam said, Robert was taken to his house opposite the school premises afterwards but couldn't regain consciousness. He was then rushed to Port Moresby General Hospital where he passed away on Saturday night. NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa confirmed that police are investigating.
