HE state of art new multipurpose stadium currently under construction replacing the old Sir Hubert Murray stadium will surely be the centre of attraction once it is built and completed in 2015 in Port Moresby.
It will be the pinnacle of Port Moresby as it is being built in the heart of city which will have a sporting field (rugby union and soccer), gymnasium and also the weightlifting and Paralympics sports. A four storey complex will also be built which will have a club house, corporate boxes and office space. The Sir Hubert Murray trustee headed by Sir Mick Curtain and board of directors comprising of Babani Maraga, Ovia Oala Rarua, Bill Skate junior (Motu Koita), Sir Costas Constantino (Pacific Games chairman),Peter Tsiamalili (PNGSF chief executive officer), Brian Aldrich (AKT) and Justin McGann (Curtain brothers) are all but confident that the new stadium Sir Mick Curtain said the stadium will have a sitting capacity of 20, 000 seats which is all of international standards. "The Eastern end will have 7, 000 and the Western end (larger stands) will have 5, 000 seats each while the Southern and Northern end (smaller stands) will accommodate 4,000 seats each. "We are almost there with the stage one of the construction phase at the Eastern and Southern end at putting the foundation before we start erecting other sections" said Sir Mick.. The cost of the construction is in excess of K150, 000 million committed by Curtain Brothers. Sports and 2015 Pacific Games Minister, Justin Tkatchenko said it is good to have a private and public partnership working closely with the National government. Tkatchenko expressed gratitude to Sir Mick Curtain for the commitment his company (Curtain Brothers) for taking the ownership at constructing the new stadium. Comments are closed.
