The situation in Mendi Town remains tense, with rumours of a possible curfew to be imposed. Its part of the conflict over the position of the Election Manager's position in Southern Highlands. According to reports, David Wakias still claims to be the Election Manager, despite the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Patilias Gamato, revoking his appointment and replacing him with Jacob Kurap. Both Mr. Wakias and Mr. Kurap attended the Highlands Regional Elections Managers Workshop in Mount Hagen, Western Highlands, and this has further worsened the situation in Mendi. The week-long workshop ended this afternoon. Further reports revealed, that there is tension between supporters of Wakias and Kurap and this is prompting police to impose a curfew. The stand off has further delayed the common roll update in Southern Highlands, with concerns that this may affect the 2017 National Elections.
