Police in East New Britain Province will now be enforcing the laws against smoking in Public Motor Vehicles.
This has been around for a while, but PMV operators have been ignorant of this and have been allowing it to happen, especially drivers and crew who themselves do this. "It is a Health hazard to others , especially young children who travel in PMV's, said Provincial Police Commander, Anthony Wagambie Junior. He says, It is a matter of being polite, respecting others and taking into consideration non smokers. The law is there , but it is individuals common sense which must prevail. You dont have to be told, it should come naturally to respect others around you. "I am calling on the general public to report any person smoking in PMVS. He or she will be dealt with by Police. It should be seen to be as serious as drinking in a moving vehicle and causing nuisance to fellow passengers"
