Former Politician and senior statesman, Sir Peter Barter reveals that there's a lot of work currently underway to improve the country's tourism industry.
He blames adverse media publicity which has one or another contributed to tarnishing the country image aboard, causing a decline in a number of tourists entering the country. There's been reports of slight increase in activities in the country. In Madang, the Visitors & Cultural Bureau reports of a slight increase in the number of visitors to the province since early this year. Sir Peter said this is due to the hard work in promoting the market, with the very limited funding the entity receives annually from the Madang Provincial Government. He further called on the Madang Government to consider increasing its yearly allocation to the Madang Visitors & Cultural Bureau to enable it to fully perform its functions. Tourism is a major revenue earner for Madang Province, however, it has not been fully developed due to the lack of support by the government. Comments are closed.
