A former Army Commander in Papua New Guinea, is urging the National Government to clean up the country's Defence force, which he says has been left in a quagmire, since 1999.
Former Brigadier-General, Jerry Singirok says, the Defence force is now riddled with in-house issues, affecting its military operations, while its huge reduction in soldiers numbers from about five-thousand to a mere two-thousand, has left it crippled. Mr. Singirok says, with P-N-G hosting the 2015 Pacific Games and 2018 APEC Summit, it's timely for the Defence Force to be brushed up, in preparation for security operations for both international events. He's further urged Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, to use the opportunity offered by Israel through the renewed bilateral and military ties, to improve the country's Defence Force. Mr. O'Neill in response, says it was ridiculous for the government at the time, to reduce soldier numbers, after Australian advice to do so, adding, it cut down to death, the P-N-G Defence Force. He says, his Government is making moves to rebuild the force, through various means. Both men were speaking on FM 100 Talk Back Show, this morning. Comments are closed.
