The Registry of Political Parties and Candidates, said while it has no part in the resignation of four members of the Government's major coalition partner the Triumph Heritage Empowerment, or THE party, it will wait for their advice, as to where they wish to move next.
Registrar of Political Parties, Doctor Alphonse Gelu, told a media conference in Port Moresby this afternoon, that his office's role is to strengthen political parties and not to see them disintegrate. Doctor Gelu said, he's written to leader of THE party, advising him that whatever the situation, the party is facing must be solved internally, using party rules and its Constitution..."they've resigned and I think that is where they are, so now it is a matter of us waiting for them to submit further documents and where they will go and which party have accepted them." He further said, the use of Section 58 of the Organic Law on Political Parties and Candidates by the four members of THE party as reason for their fallout is wrong, because that provision has been struck out by the Supreme Court in 2010.
