Finance and Education Minister, James Marape, praised schools throughout the country with initiatives of attracting teachers from abroad to teach special subjects.
Mr Marape says, PNG has a great need of more than 10,000 teachers to meet the required ration of teachers to students in schools. However, Mr Marape strongly acknowledged that a policy has been in place to stop such ideas of recruiting teachers from abroad. The Finance and Education Minister voiced that this practice will cease soon. He says, despite the attempt of Teachers colleges throughout the country producing teachers for secondary, primary and elementary levels, more schools in rural districts face enormous obstacles from a lack of teachers. This has resulted in schools being closed for years and thus increasing the number of illiterate children. Mr Marape wants this to stop as education will be compulsory next year. He says, children are a vital resource of the country and PNG’s future depends entirely on the level of education each child receives. PNG Facts / EMTV Comments are closed.
