Eastern Highlands Provincial Administrator, Solomon Tato, has been arrested and charged with official corruption.
Acting Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector John Daviaga said police arrested Mr. Tato at the Madang Airport today, where he tried to board a flight to Port Moresby. Chief Inspector Daviaga said, the charge relates to a two million Kina contract to a named local contractor for the construction of the Okapa District Office and houses. This happened when Mr. Tato was the Chairman of the Provincial Supply and Tenders Board. Police alleged proper processes were not followed, and the project not tendered. Police further alleged, money was paid and no work was done. Chief Inspector Daviaga said, Mr. Tato is on a two-thousand Kina bail, and will appear at the Goroka District Court tomorrow. PNGFACT/NBC
